QCI is a family-owned consultancy. Bill Harreld founded Quality Culture Institute in 1991 to help organizations and individuals rise to their highest potential, initially by assisting them in following the Baldrige Excellence Framework, and later by offering a variety of consulting services to help organizations develop high quality practices in planning, training, and leadership. Bill actively managed QCI until his death in early 2016.
Today, three of Bill’s children, each of whom has extensive experience in business, industry, non-profit, education, and government sectors, are partners in the QCI organization. Together, QCI’s partners have over 70 years of experience, most of which has been in management or leadership positions. Our founder, Bill Harreld, began his career on the assembly line at IBM. Based on his continuing education initiatives and his high levels of performance on the job, he progressed through 28 distinctly different jobs in his 34-year career at IBM, including manufacturing, market research, forecasting, planning, training, and procurement.
Before founding QCI, Bill worked in a variety of management positions with IBM in Rochester, MN, San Jose, CA, and with the IBM World Trade division in White Plains, NY, and with IBM Europe in Paris, France.
QCI’s clients have included government agencies, non-profit organizations, and businesses, We have worked with many manufacturing, construction, wholesaling, printing, and healthcare businesses. We have also consulted on a variety of projects for non-profit organizations and governnment agencies ranging from the U.S. Department of Energy, to RCTC, to the Minnesota Governor’s Council on Developmental Diasbilities. QCI has had a particularly fruitful experience working with the Minnesota Governor’s Council on Developmental Disabilities on its journey to implement continuous quality improvement.
