Certified Nurse Assistant
Certified Nurse Assistants are the foundation of in-patient care. Whether in a hospital setting or a long-term care facility, the nursing assistant is on the front lines, caring for patients daily needs.
In a state-certified combination of 125 hours of theory and 40 hours of clinical experience, students learn the necessary skills to properly care for patients. The program covers interpersonal skills, medical terminology, legal and ethical responsibilities, safe and efficient work practices, infection control, mobility and positioning, data collection, gerontology, nutrition, pet-facilitated therapy, health and safety including. During their practical training, students will be able to work directly with patients at a clinical site under the supervision of the Clinical Instructor. Upon successful completion of the program from our approved school, the student is eligible to sit for the Illinois Department of Public Health Certification Exam.
Occupational Outlook
The healthcare industry is expected to grow faster than average due to a large aging population. Turnover within this job sector is high, as many CNA’s decide to further their education by completing the advanced training necessary to obtain a nursing license to become a registered nurse. Both of these factors, fast growth and high replacement needs, mean that demand for CNA’s is high and will remain that way. Employment as a nursing aide can generally be found in nursing homes and hospitals. Home health aides work in private homes and are employed by home health agencies, social service agencies, public health agencies, nursing associations and even temporary help agencies.
Salaries
These fields have a wage range between $9 $12 an hour to start and up to $13$15 an hour for years of experience and responsibility.
