Medical Billing and its related occupations are one of the fastest growing opportunities in health care. Most companies and practices are looking for schooling and/or experience because of the legal ramifications of incorrect billing practices.
During the past few years insurance companies came out with the standard and codes necessary to process medical claims from doctors offices as well as other medical organizations. Insurance companies use an electronic process to simplify processing and pay off of the insurance claims. Therefore, medical facilities are required to submit their claims in correct and efficient way. So, Medical Biller/Coder is a person who assists doctors to submit and follow up on medical claims to insurance companies. This profession became a necessary part of any medical facility due to the uprising need in efficient and effective way of medical claim submittal and follow up. Since, Medical Biller/Coder is aware of the doctor’s diagnosis, medical procedures and insurance claim process, these professionals allow doctors to concentrate on patients as opposed to insurance processing.
This program is on-site training, focusing on the introduction of Medical Billing Principles and hands-on training using Medical Billing Software and Microsoft Office applications and focusing on the Advanced Medical Coding Principles and hands-on training using Medical Coding books that allows students to receive in depth knowledge of the coding procedures to work in various medical settings. It also prepares students with no business experience to acquire an adequate knowledge of PC applications, coding books and software, business and professional manners. Our instructors customize the material that would be used in this training course as it pertains to the requirements of the current market. Participants will receive handouts, reading material, other aids, and helpful advise by experienced and knowledgeable instructors.
This program would prepare our students to take a national certification exam to become a certified Medical Coder by NHA and Certified Professional Coder by AAPC
This program prepares medical Coding /Billing professionals for careers in variety of healthcare settings, coding even the most extensive procedures. Complete details in CPT-4, ICD-9-CM, and HCPCS coding are covered as well as information on the Correct Coding Initiative (CCI), compliance and reimbursement issues. Students will learn how to process insurance forms, assign medical codes, and operate databases and medical billing computer software. Program also includes an extensive Medical Terminology training, covering the structure and use of medical language to help students build a professional medical vocabulary based on an understanding of prefixes, suffixes, word roots, and combining forms.
Occupational Outlook
The health care industry, on the whole, is rapidly expanding, due to an aging population increased technology and costs. As the volume of tests, treatments, and the associated billing and insurance claims increases, so does the volume of scrutiny necessary. All areas of this field will grow faster than average, but especially within nursing homes, home health care agencies, physician’s office, and large group practices. Advancement in this field is easily possible, usually by specializing in coding, such as for Medicare. Demand for such specialized coders will only increase. Thus, not only is the opportunity for entry-level jobs quite good, so is the opportunity for advancement and increased pay. This course gives students the means to obtain a start in this industry.
Salaries
These fields have a wage range between $12-$14 an hour to start and up to $30-$40 an hour for years of experience and responsibility.
