General Ultrasound Sonography
The course is designed for those who wish to pursue a career in Diagnostic Medical Ultrasound. Ultrasonography, (commonly called sonography) is a diagnostic medical procedure that uses high frequency sound waves (ultrasound) to produce dynamic visual images of organs, tissues, or blood flow inside the body. Sonography can be used to examine many parts of the body, such as the abdomen, breasts, female reproductive system, prostate, heart, and blood vessels. Unlike X-rays, sonography is a radiation-free imaging modality.

Certified Medical Assistant

Certified Phlebotomy/EKG Technician
The Phlebotomy Technician is the person responsible for the drawing blood as instructed by physician or other health care professional. Most people have their blood drawn at medical examinations or during hospital stays. Our Phlebotomy Training will teach the student the appropriate phlebotomy procedure. Phlebotomy principles and practice preparation includes comprehensive lecture instruction and practical training in the fundamentals of blood drawing. The lectures include the anatomy and physiology of the vascular system related to phlebotomy, various phlebotomy techniques equipment, issues dealing with patient contact, medical ethics medical legal principles, safety infection control for the patient the health care worker and the functions of professionals in the health care team. The practical training consists of demonstrations and practice sessions (on campus) and clinical rotations in Highland Park hospital. Upon successful completion of the course, students are eligible to sit for national certification exams and to seek employment as phlebotomists.

Patient Care Technician
The program is designed for students preparing to enter health career as a Patient Care Technicians. It is focused on direct patient care services for various hospital or ambulatory care units under supervision of a registered nurse. Students will obtain knowledge and skills necessary to perform routine personal care to complex patients and observe and report changes in patient conditions. Program covers basic techniques of venipuncture and skin puncture for obtaining blood specimens for laboratory analysis. Infection control and the labeling of blood specimens are emphasized. Training includes performance of non-invasive electrocardiographic procedures, such as an electrocardiogram (EKG) as well as anatomy and physiology of the heart and monitoring of artifacts and gross abnormalities. Training includes clinical internship at the Highland Park Phlebotomy Lab and Brandell Care Center.

They represent a wide range of skills and knowledge from full-charge bookkeepers who can maintain an entire company’s books to accounting clerks who handle specific accounts. All of these clerks make numerous computations each day and increasingly must be comfortable using computers to calculate and record data.

Information Technology Programs
There are a variety of positions available in the I.T. Career field.
Programmers write, test, and maintain the detailed instructions, called programs or software, that computers must follow to perform their functions. These programs tell the computer what to do—which information to identify and access, how to process it, and what equipment to use. Programmers write these commands by breaking down each operation into a logical sequence of steps, converting the instructions for those steps into a language that the computer understands. While some still work with traditional programming languages like COBOL, object-oriented programming languages such as C++ and Java, computer-aided software engineering (CASE) tools, and artificial intelligence tools now are being used to create and maintain programs. These languages and tools allow portions of code to be reused in programs that require similar routines. Many programmers also customize purchased software or create better software to meet a client’s specific needs.
Computer software engineers design, develop, test, and evaluate software programs and systems. Although programmers write and support programs in new languages, much of the design and development now is the responsibility of software engineers or software developers. Software engineers must possess strong programming skills, but are more concerned with developing algorithms and analyzing and solving programming problems than with actually writing code. These professionals develop many types of software, including operating systems software, network distribution software, and a variety of applications software. Computer systems software engineers coordinate the construction and maintenance of a company’s computer systems, and plan their future growth. They develop software systems for control and automation in manufacturing, business, and other areas. They research, design, and test operating system software, compilers—software that converts programs for faster processing—and network distribution software. Computer applications software engineers analyze users’ needs and design, create, and modify general computer applications software or specialized utility programs. They develop software solutions. For example, video game programmers are software engineers who plan and write video game software.

Computer Drafting
Drafters prepare technical drawings and plans used by production and construction workers to build everything from manufactured products such as toys, toasters, industrial machinery. Drafters’ drawings provide visual guidelines; show the technical details of the products and structures; and specify dimensions, materials, and procedures. Drafters fill in technical details using drawings, rough sketches, specifications, codes, and calculations previously made by engineers, surveyors, architects, or scientists. Drafters use technical handbooks, tables, calculators, and computers to complete their work.

Tool and die makers are among the most highly skilled workers in manufacturing. These workers produce tools, dies, and special guiding and holding devices that enable machines to manufacture a variety of products we use daily—from clothing and furniture to heavy equipment and parts for aircraft.

CNC Operator/Programmer
Computer control programmers and operators use computer numerically controlled (CNC) machines to cut and shape precision products, such as automobile parts, machine parts, and compressors. CNC machines include machining tools such as lathes, multiaxis spindles, milling machines, laser cutting, water jet cutting, and wire electrical discharge machines (EDM), but the functions formerly performed by human operators are performed by a computer-control module. CNC machines cut away material from a solid block of metal, plastic, or glass—known as a workpiece—to form a finished part. Computer control programmers and operators normally produce large quantities of one part, although they may produce small batches or one-of-a-kind items. They use their knowledge of the working properties of metals and their skill with CNC programming to design and carry out the operations needed to make machined products that meet precise specifications.
